VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (May 07, 2008) Sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) man the rails as they enter Vladivostok for a scheduled port visit. GULF OF ADEN (May 06, 2008) The guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) tows the 15-meter dhow, Dunia, after the boat experienced engine problems leaving it unable to operate at sea. The Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Kanawha (T-AO 196) and Shoup responded to the ship in distress and towed the boat to Yemeni territorial waters where it was met by a Yemeni tug. Kanawha and Shoup also provided the dhow's crew with food, water and medical support. Coalition forces have a longstanding tradition of helping mariners in distress by providing medical assistance, engineering assistance as well as search and rescue. U.S. Navy photo (Released)

ROTA, Spain (April 23, 2008) A tug boat comes along side the amphibious dock landing ship USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) as it prepares to leave Naval Station Rota for its homeport of Norfolk, Va., after a six-month deployment to the coast of west and central Africa as part of Africa Partnership Station (APS). According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the halo, which typically indicates rain is on the way, is a ring of colored or white light that encircles the sun when seen through a cloud of ice crystals. Philippine Sea (Jun. 12, 2003) -- A CH-46D Sea Knight from the "Gunbearers" of Helicopter Support Squadron Eleven (HC-11/ Det 8) lifts a full load from the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) to the fast combat support ship USS Sacramento (AOE 1), while the guided missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54) follows close behind during an underway replenishment. Near the North Pole (Apr. 27, 2003) -- During Exercise ICEX 2003, the Seawolf-class attack submarine USS Connecticut (SSN 22) surfaced and broke through the ice. This polar bear, attracted by the hole which can be used to find food, was seen through the sub's periscope and these photos were captured as the image was projected on a flat-panel display. HONG KONG -- The USS Constellation arrives in Hong Kong Aug. 20 for a five-day port call. Visiting Hong Kong for the first time in four years, elements of the Constellation Carrier Battle Group will have a chance to sightsee, shop and enjoy recreational activities. The battle group is wrapping up a routine six-month deployment, which included operations in the Arabian Gulf, Indian Ocean and Western Pacific Ocean.
